The theme of World Environment Day in 2021: The theme of World Environment Day this year is ‘Ecosystem Restoration’. This year Pakistan will host globally for the World Environment Day. Last year, Colombia and Germany were the global hosts of the World Environment Day and the theme was ‘Time for Nature’.

The term ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ means to assist in the recovery of ecosystems which have been degraded by pollution, deforestation, and other human activities.

It also includes conservation of the ecosystems that are fragile or still intact. It also promotes taking measures to conserve the ecosystem which is still intact. The ecosystem can be restored by planting trees, changing diets or cleaning up rivers and coasts, greening cities and rewilding gardens. Rich biodiversity and green ecosystems yield immense benefits. People should eliminate pressures on the environment.

Usage of plastic has been increased tremendously in this Coronavirus pandemic. The ongoing pandemic has given us a warning about the harm we cause to our beautiful planet. We should take it seriously and execute the theme of World Environment Day of this year to protect the environment as well as our Mother Earth.
